While living in the tree, she also began her memoir, The Legacy of Luna: The
Story of a Tree, a Woman, and the Struggle to Save the Redwoods. After Hill's
grueling stint of 738 days in the great redwood, a legal agreement was finally
reached that provided for the preservation of Luna and all the trees within the
three acres surrounding it. In return, Hill had to pay $50,000 to Pacific Lumber.
Pacific Lumber then donated the money to a Humboldt State University, a local
college.
